Read MoreOur next class will take place on Saturday Jan. 14, 2023 and Jan 21, 2023. We will be building the Ender 3 (version 2) tabletop 3-d printer. This has been our most popular class. It is limited to 10 participants, and it will fill up fast. Our volunteer instructors will take each class member step by step through the process to build the machine from a kit. In the second Saturday session will we learn to program and operate the machine. The workshop costs $200 and you take your machine home afterwards to continue learning. Read MoreClass Announced! On October 15th, Greg Barbu will be leading a class at Wayne Center for the Arts titled "Intro to Microprocessors: Control the World!" A one-morning introduction to using the Arduino microprocessor to interact with LEDs, buttons, buzzers and sensors. In this class you will learn how to use a breadboard to assemble circuits, how to load and modify Arduino programs, and create a working microprocessor application. You will take home a plethora of electronic components and an Arduino board to continue using your microprocessor to control the world.

We are thrilled to see vaccines being distributed and the number of contracted cases continuing to go down in Ohio. This two session workshop (March 14th and 21st, 2020) takes students through the process of building an LED Display from a kit of electronic parts. Students will learn the applications of these electrical components and how they interact with each other to make the display work. We will then walk students through an animation software that will allow them to program their display in thousands of creative ways. Cost for this course is $125. Read MoreSnowmen aren’t the only thing you can build in the winter! Schantz MakerSpace traveled to Orrville High School this morning for a 3-D printer build. We had 13 students from 4 different school districts (Orrville, Waynedale, Rittman and Norwayne) coming together to put Creality Ender 3 machines together from kits. By the end of the session, every student had fully constructed their machines and were running test prints. Now they each have a machine that can bring their imagination and creative designs to life. Read MoreTime to fly!Yesterday we joined students from the OHS Maker Club for some flight training with drones. Our Schantz MakerSpace volunteers walked students through a "How NOT to Crash" course and discussed the ways drones are helping to solve problems in today's world. Then students got to test their skills on our obstacle courses and joined in a team effort to solve a "Toxic Waste Mission". Careers involving this skill set are growing in number each year. The best way to grow your skills is to get out and play! Looking forward to coming back next week for a session on programming the drones for autonomous flight. Denver Steiner (Director of Information Services) will be giving us a tour of the Ventrac manufacturing facility where you will see the process of transforming sheet metal into tractors & attachments shipped around the world. Included in the tour will be a peek at the custom software used to drive the operation.Bring the kids!!! The 2nd part of the presentation will be focused on STEM tools aimed at exposing kids ages 6 to 12 to programming and electronic concepts. Denver runs a weekly “Robot Club” that meets in the winter for employee kids and will demo some of the materials he uses from Lego and other platforms such as Arduino and Raspberry Pi.
