November Maker Monday

Monday, November 16th
7:00–9:00 PM
Romich MakerSpace
13875 Cleveland Road, Creston, Ohio 44217

At our November Maker Monday, we'll hear the story of the effort to save and restore the historic Rittman Railroad Depot, preserving an important part of the community's railroad heritage while creating opportunities for future generations.

But this is more than a story about restoring an old building. Beneath the restored passenger rooms and historic freight halls lies a brand-new, modern basement engineered specifically to house Rittman's next generation of creators, builders, and thinkers. Funded in partnership with the Romich Foundation, this space will soon become a fully equipped community Makerspace.

Our speaker will discuss the challenges of saving the depot, the vision for its future, and how the basement Makerspace fits into those plans. We'll explore how a building that once connected Rittman to the wider world through the railroad can become a place that connects people through creativity, technology, and hands-on learning.

For those of us involved in the Schantz MakerSpace, the project offers an especially interesting opportunity to see how another community is approaching the idea of a shared workshop—and how Makerspaces can bring together people of different ages, interests, and experience levels.

Whether you're interested in local history, historic preservation, woodworking, 3D printing, or simply the idea of giving an old building a new life, this promises to be an interesting evening.

As always, the second half of the meeting will be devoted to questions, troubleshooting, and repairs. If you've taken one of our 3D printer classes or are experiencing problems with a printer or other maker project, bring it along. Our instructors and experienced members will be available to help diagnose problems and get you back up and running.
