Multi-color 3D printing has come a long way. Printers that once produced objects in a single color can now automatically switch among several colors—or even different types of material—during a print. But how well does it really work?

At our October Maker Monday, Gary Melton will give us a user’s perspective on multi-color 3D printing.  Gary will share what he has learned from actually using different printers and multi-color systems. He’ll explore some of the questions you might have if you’re considering multi-color printing:

·        What options are available, and how do they differ?

·        What works well—and what doesn’t?

·        What are the common frustrations and pitfalls?

·        How much additional time, material, and effort does multi-color printing require?

·        What has Gary learned from the different printers and systems he has used?

·        Where does he think multi-color 3D printing is headed next?

Gary will also share examples of his own work and discuss situations where printing in multiple colors adds real value—as well as times when the extra complexity may not be worth it.

Whether you already have a multi-color printer, are thinking about buying one, or simply wonder how a printer can create an object in several colors, this will be an opportunity to learn from someone who has actually lived with the technology.

You don't need to be an expert—or even own a 3D printer—to attend Maker Monday. Bring your questions, your experiences, and your curiosity.

As always, the second half of the meeting will be devoted to questions, troubleshooting, and repairs. If you've taken one of our 3D printer classes or are experiencing problems with a printer or other maker project, bring it along. Our instructors and experienced members will be available to help diagnose problems and get you back up and running.
